Kilkenny District Court - holding a mobile phone while driving
A driver who ‘not only put himself at risk but also other road users’ has been handed a driving ban by the judge at Kilkenny District Court.
Bernard Comerford, Purcells Inch, Dublin Road, Kilkenny, was observed by a garda driving while holding a mobile phone, at the Bennettsbridge Road Roundabout, Kilkenny, on August 26, 2025.

The court was told a fixed penalty notice was sent to Mr Comerford but not paid. He had 31 previous convictions, including one for holding a mobile phone while driving.
Judge Geraldine Carthy remarked that Mr Comerford was ‘not only putting himself at risk but also other road users’. She convicted him and imposed a fine of €300. Mr Comerford was also disqualified from driving for three months.
