Gardaí in Kilkenny have issued a warning to the public that a new scam text relating to the health services and COVID-19 is in circulation.
The HSE says it takes these scams seriously and monitors the web for instances of scam websites purporting to offer HSE-related services.
This particular scam text tells the recipient that they are a close contact of somebody with the Omicron variant of COVID-19 and asks the recipient to order a 'mandatory' testing kit, presumably to phish confidential information from them.
The HSE has previosuly urged people to stay vigilant and take the following advice if they are concerned about a text message from the HSE:
· You should never give your bank details or PIN to someone over the phone or online.
· The HSE does not charge for COVID-19 related services, including testing and contract tracing and texts indicating otherwise should be ignored.
· The HSE will never ask you for your bank details or to pay for COVID-19 testing. There is no charge for COVID-19 testing or vaccines through the HSE.
· Ring HSELive on 1800 700 700 if you have any concerns or suspicions. You should also contact your local Gardaí if you suspect fraud. Screenshot the email, text message or other communication for Gardaí.
"We would ask that members of the public make contact with any vulnerable friends or family to make them aware of these calls and text messages," the HSE spokesperson added.
