'They can be intimidating' - Kilkenny gardaí warn of bogus callers and rogue traders

Kilkenny gardaí have joined other local garda divisions to warn local people about the risks and dangers posed by bogus callers and rogue traders.

The warning comes as neighbouring Laois gardaí are investigating a number of incidents where people have been pressured to buy items they do not need.

Gardaí state that it is especially important to warn family members that may be particularly susceptible and vulnerable.

"They will be offering services such as power-washing, painting, selling goods etc. We have one in particular that returns to people previously visited. They prefer to target the more vulnerable and persons living alone," gardaí said.

"We advise and encourage people not to engage with such callers. Don't open your door to anyone before you have checked who it is and what they want and they are known to you. They can be intimidating and refuse to take no for an answer."

Gardaí are also advising people to be vigilant when out and about and are asking people to report suspicious persons/vehicles to them immediately.

Remember, if in doubt, keep them out.
