Kilkenny Roads Policing Unit said a learner driver was found driving unaccompanied before officers allegedly discovered bald tyres and a positive roadside drug test

A driver was recently arrested and had their vehicle seized following a roadside stop by members of the Kilkenny Roads Policing Unit.

Sharing details of the incident on social media, gardaí opened with a reference to the late broadcaster Larry Gogan's famous catchphrase: "Ah, the questions didn't suit you."

According to gardaí, officers first asked the driver to produce a driving licence and found the motorist was a learner permit holder driving without an accompanying qualified driver.

Gardaí then made enquiries about the vehicle's roadworthiness, with officers saying the condition of the tyres, which they described as bald, provided the answer.

The driver was also asked to provide an oral fluid test, which gardaí said returned a positive result for cocaine.

The vehicle was seized and the driver was arrested.

Using the incident to highlight road safety, gardaí concluded their post with the message: "The road asks many questions of those that use it, be able to answer."
