Over 3,000 Kilkenny households have availed of Warmer Homes Scheme!

There has been a significant increase in Kilkenny households benefitting from a scheme to improve the energy efficiency and warmth of their homes.
Fianna Fáil TD for Carlow/Kilkenny, Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere, has highlighted the increase year on year of constituents in Kilkenny availing of The Warmer Homes Scheme.
The Warmer Homes Scheme aims to improve the energy efficiency and warmth of homes owned by people in energy poverty by providing fully funded retrofits. Last year saw record spend of almost €230 million under the scheme.
By way of parliamentary question, Deputy Cleere asked the Minister for Transport, Climate, and the Environment, Darragh O’Brien if he could provide a breakdown of people availing of the scheme across the county.
The breakdown he received was across the years 2020 to 2024, those of which Deputy Cleere said there was a ‘significant increase’ in constituents availing of the scheme across Kilkenny year on year.
“When I was studying the breakdown of people availing of The Warmer Homes Scheme across the constituency, I saw there has been a huge number of applicants availing of this across Kilkenny.
“In 2020, there were only 251 households availing of the Warmer Homes Scheme in Kilkenny. In 2024, across Kilkenny 1,143 households availed of the scheme. This is fantastic news."
Deputy Cleere has hailed the ongoing success of the scheme: “The Warmer Homes Scheme has been and continues to be a big success. Last year we saw over 7,700 upgrades take place. This provided low-income households with retrofits to their homes.
“This year’s budget will be €280 million; this represents an 11-fold increase on the 2020 investment. In Fianna Fáil, we are committed to providing low-income households with warmer homes and ensuring that those in energy poverty get the fully funded retrofits they deserve,” he concluded.
