First-time Kilkenny TD thanks public for support as he begins new political journey

Peter 'Chap' Cleere has begun life as a TD for Carlow-Kilkenny
Fianna Fáil TD for Carlow-Kilkenny, Peter 'Chap' Cleere has described his election as the 'absolute privilege of a lifetime' as the local politician took his seat in Dáil Eireann for the very first time on Wednesday afternoon.
As well as setting up his Dáil office, the new TD has been busy working to fill his seat on the county council in Kilkenny, and setting up his constituency office in Kilkenny, which will be run by experienced former Fianna Fáil councillor Matt Doran.
"It is an absolute privilege of a lifetime to serve the people of Carlow-Kilkenny," Deputy Cleere posted to social media.
"I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the opportunity," he added.
The Skeogh native was one of three Fianna Fáil TD's elected in the Carlow-Kilkenny constituency in what was a remarkable General Election performance locally for the party.
