For the first time in its long and successful career, the Iverk Show’s total prize fund is over €100,000 this year.
“A fantastic achievement,” said new chairman John Flynn, speaking at the launch of this year’s class and prize schedule for the show, which will take place on 26th August.
The credit for such an achievement, Mr Flynn said, must go to everyone involved in the show especially the dedicated and hard-working members of the committee.
This year also sees a rise in the prize money available for young people with a new record high of over €10,000.
There are special classes in most of the sections for people under 18 years of age.
But of course, young people can also compete in adult classes in, for example, the dogs, poultry, fruit and vegetables.
The Iverk committee firmly believes in encouraging young people as the very future of shows is with them. That is another reason why the show is now approaching its 200th anniversary.
Like everything else now-a-days, you can see the whole programme of events and classes online at www.iverkshow.ie. We have not forgotten non online people. Contact the Iverk Show office on 051 644621 for your ‘hard’ copy of the prize list.
As always at Iverk Show there is something for everyone, young and old. There are new classes and all the old favourites such as the Iverk Great Cherry Cake competition.
The huge Aldi, ABP, Irish Angus bull calf championships are back with an increased prize fund now in excess of €40,000. There will be 10 different breeds of cattle on show.
The ladies side saddle in the show horse section is so graceful to watch and reminiscent of yesteryear. The sheep, dogs and poultry are a must to see.
There are new classes in most sections. A very interesting one is the ‘Upcycle Feature for a Garden’ with a €250 prize fund in the flower arranging section.
All you have to do is create a feature from upcycled pieces that would be suitable for a garden in a space 80cm wide. Now there is a challenge for you!
In the prize list do take a look at the fashion show schedule, the best dressed lady AND gentleman and the bonny baby competitions. For the fit and strong there is the Tug of War for men AND ladies.
In the arts, crafts, photography, baking, fruit, vegetable, cut flowers, honey and egg sections you will surely find a class you can enter.
Enter and show off your talents. All the top exhibitors started in shows like Iverk. The pleasure of winning especially your first rosette is second to none.
