In attendance were Cathaoirleach Michael Doyle, Mayor Joe Malone, local accountants, solicitors, county councillors, auctioneers, and students from Loreto Kilkenny.
The purpose of the event was to promote sustainability and inform the audience about the Teagasc Signpost Programme.
Keynote speakers at the event were Jason Dempsey, Senior Manager AIB Kilkenny, Diarmuid Donnellan, AIB Head of Sustainability Agri Food and Fisheries, Patrick Dunphy Teagasc Signpost Officer and finally questions and answers with Chris Nolan Agri Advisor AIB Kilkenny and local beef farmer Ruairi Cummins.
Jason Dempsey opened the event explaining AIB’s focus in the area of sustainability and all that AIB had been involved with over the past few years. “As a recognised leader of sustainability in Ireland and through our Pledge to do more, AIB are committed to building long term resilience and sustainability for our business, economy and society.
“AIB are critical catalysts for climate action. We provide funding for broad infrastructural change such as the development of renewable energy sources like wind and solar farms, as well as sustainable office buildings, factories, transport and more.”
Since 2019 AIB have launched new products and services for our personal and business customers to help make more energy-efficient choices in their life and work.
Patrick Dunphy (Teagasc) gave an insight into the Signpost Programme. A collaborative partnership of farmer’s, industry and state agencies working together for climate action. He spoke about the Climate Action Plan 2023 and the targets for agriculture by 2030. He also tested the attendees on their knowledge of the ‘12 steps to reducing gaseous emissions on a farm.’
Finally, Chris Nolan had a questions and answers session with beef farmer Ruairi Cummins. Attendees got an insight into the measures Ruairi is implementing on his family farm to reduce emissions while also improving profitability.
