SIPTU call for significant and immediate action

SIPTU representatives have requested an urgent meeting with the management of Tirlán Co-op in Kilkenny, concerning the business’s proposed restructuring plans which could result in a number of job losses.

Yesterday (Thursday) the co-op announced up to 150 roles will be affected. Read details here.

SIPTU Organiser, Terry Bryan, said: “SIPTU representatives within Tirlán Co-op have sought a series of meetings with management following the announcement  concerning the outcome of a strategic review of the business.

“The review, entitled ‘Project Mayfair’ by the business, will be the focus of our discussions with management. SIPTU representatives will seek to go through the review on a site-by-site basis with an emphasis on minimising any proposed voluntary redundancies while seeking to secure the future viability of the Co-op.”

He added: “Our priority at this time is to protect the livelihoods of our members, their families and the local communities which economically depend on the Co-op’s activities.”

Tirlán’s Head Office is in Kilkenny City. The Co-op, formerly Glanbia, also has a significant presence of production sites and development laboratories across the country.
