Kilkenny man in the running for overall title of 2024 FBD Young Farmer of the Year

Final six contestants competing for 2024 FBD Young Farmer of the Year have been announced

A Kilkenny farmer is in the running for the 2024 FBD Young Farmer of the Year.

David Melody, a dairy farmer from Kilkenny, is among the six nominees. He has managed a 350-cow dairy herd in Kilkenny since 2019.

The final six contestants competing for the 2024 FBD Young Farmer of the Year have been announced. They are: Martin O Reilly, a dairy farmer from Laois; Jamie Hannon, a sheep farmer from Sligo; David Melody; Christopher Cahill, a dairy farmer from Meath; Séamus Leahy, a goat farmer from Limerick; and Sarah Kelly, an equine farmer from Sligo.

Macra national president Elaine Houlihan congratulated the young farmers on their success: “It is brilliant to see such a dynamic and dedicated group of young farmers represent their sector; we await with bated breath on the announcement of the various category and overall winner at tonight’s banquet.”

The final six contestants will now compete for the overall title of 2024 FBD Young Farmer of the Year. Category winners and the overall winner will be announced tonight at the FBD Young Farmer of the Year Awards in the Heritage hotel, Laois.
