Germany reports first Foot and Mouth outbreak in 40 years
The ICMSA is urging vigilance in the local, Kilkenny farming community as Germany reports its first Foot and Mouth disease outbreak in nearly 40 years.
President of ICMSA, Kilkenny farmer Denis Drennan, said that we must hope that the outbreak will be quickly contained, and the German authorities have already taken appropriate measures to contain the outbreak within the immediate-impacted area.
From an Irish perspective, Mr Drennan said that it is important that the appropriate precautionary measures are taken at border entry points to minimise any risks, and he urged people travelling to the greater Berlin area to please follow the advice of experts in relation to importing food items which could be a risk factor.
