The cast of The Plough and the Stars
Kilkenny based Barnstorm Theatre Company will present Sean O’Casey’s The Plough and the Stars in a joint production with the Watergate Theatre from Wednesday to Saturday at 8pm with matinees on Thursday and Friday.
Barnstorm brings its 26 years of professional experience in theatre to a collaboration that involves actors from across the county performing in a classic Irish play, which was chosen in conjunction with secondary school teachers to meet the educational needs, and enhance the learning experience of students, while at the same time, producing quality theatre for all.
The purpose of this annual co-production is to provide the highest quality theatrical experience for, and by, the people from Kilkenny city and county, and to share the knowledge of Barnstorm’s many years of theatre making.
But the value of this production goes way beyond its four-day run. As it states in the Creative Ireland Programme: “Creative people are key to the new economy in which the ability to conceptualise is more important than knowledge. Culture and creativity are essential features of an innovative, post-industrial economy.”
