Tipperary farmer and ICMSA leader Pat McCormack
The President of ICMSA, Pat McCormack said that today’s decision by the Supreme Court represented a welcome boost for both Glanbia and the wider Irish dairy sector.
Mr. McCormack said that the planning and proposals had now been minutely examined by numerous agencies on every possible grounds and no reason had been found to halt it. It was time, he said, to draw a line under what had been a very long and tortuous process and begin moving the development forward.
Mr. McCormack said that the decision was a vote of confidence in favour of the long-term sustainability of Irish dairying and the our ability to utilise our unique grass-based dairy sector to produce milk in a way that way that is economically viable and environmentally compatible. It was good day for the Irish dairy sector and a great day for the South-East of Ireland – one of our most productive agricultural regions, he said.
