Kilkenny Mart prices have dairy sellers smiling

The cattle trade continues on a very positive front with last Thursday’s cattle sale attracting 1050 head with TO in excess of €1.2 million.


Forward bullocks are making excellent prices with beef types in demand due to limited numbers on offer.
An indication of the trade was the fact that beef type Friesian bullocks made in excess of €2.40 per kilo.
Heifers also sold very well with all types in demand.


Buoyant Trade
The cull cow trade remains buoyant with the lowest price for friesians been €1.20 per kilo. About four months ago these type of animals would only be securing €0.70 to €0.80 per kilo so no wonder dairy men are smiling.


Continental types in this sector are ranging between €1.70 to €2.65 per kilo.

Sheep Sale
Sheep numbers are remaining small with a little over 300 on offer this week with hoggets/ lambs in the butcher sector ranging from €150 to €163 per head and cull ewes to a top call of €180.

Monday Sales
Our Monday dairy sales aqre attracting good numbers with clearance sales taking place every Monday for the next 5 weeks.
Monday’s clearance sale saw a magnificent herd averaging €1640 with a top call of €2260.
Next Monday’s sale comprises of another clearance of over 60 head with the entire sale attracting in excess of 100 head.
Tuesday’s calf sales have seen numbers increasing with this Tuesday seeing over 700 on offer.
