Brave Kilkenny fall short to Tipperary in All-Ireland Camogie Championship

Brave Kilkenny fall short at The Ragg

Kilkenny will play Dublin in the quarter-finals of the All-Ireland Camogie Championship next Saturday, July 6 after narrowly losing out to Tipperary in The Ragg yesterday (Saturday) in the final round of group matches.

Tipperary led the contest from start to finish and held a 0-10 0-3 advantage at half-time with Kilkenny's trio of scores coming from Steffi Fitzgerald, Aoife Doyle and Aoife Prendergast

Peter 'Chap' Cleere's side never gave up the fight and started the second half in promising form with three of the half's opening four points.

However, Tipperary retained their seven point cushion with a goal in the 41st minute leaving the scoreline at 1-11 to 0-7.

The expression 'a game of two halves' certainly applied in The Ragg yesterday though as Kilkenny dominated the second period and notched eight of the remaining 12 points  with Aoife Prendergast standing up to the mark with five points.

But, it wasn't to be for Kilkenny with the goal proving to be a fatal blow as the All-Ireland Champions of 2022 suffered their first loss in this year's championship.

Kilkenny now turn their attention to a quarter-final date with Dublin which will be held in Croke Park next Saturday at 12.30pm prior to Kilkenny's All-Ireland Hurling Semi-Final with Clare at 3pm in the same venue.
