Kilkenny GAA lost a much-loved past-player this week following the sad passing of former inter-county minor hurler Alex McGrath at the age of 82.
McGrath who has been living in Chicago for many years, was centre-back on the Kilkenny minor team in 1959/60.

The local man was also a member of the 1971 Chicago Harry Bolands team who won the American League lining out with fellow county men; John and Liam O’Brien, Tom McGrath (brother), Geoff Butler and the recently deceased Mick Crotty.
Paying tribute to McGrath, former Chairman of the Kilkenny County Board, Ned Quinn commented: "It was a privilege to meet and chat with Alex on many of his trips home from Chicago. He loved to reminisce about his time lining out in the Black and Amber and he continued his support for all Kilkenny teams throughout his life. May his gentle soul rest in peace."
