RIP: GAA club in Kilkenny form guard of honour as admired former chairman laid to rest

Eugene Walsh (RIP)

The death occurred recently of Eugene Walsh, Rathealy, Tullaroan, County Kilkenny.

Born in Coon, he was the eldest of 12 children. On getting married he bought a farm in Rathealy, where he set up home with his wife Kathleen. He also had a very successful agricultural contracting business in Tullaroan.

Eugene got involved in Tullaroan GAA club, where he was treasurer for some years. He was club chairman when Tullaroan won the senior county final in 1994 and stayed involved in the club all of his life.

Following Requiem Mass in the Church of the Assumption, Tullaroan, Eugene’s remains were removed to the local cemetery for burial. Tullaroan GAA club formed a guard of honour at his removal.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen; daughters Catherine (Tallis), Caroline (Kitson), Grace (Cullinan), Moira (Treacy), Rose (Geraghty), Teresa (Harper), Áine (Hartnett); son Michael; sons-in-law Tony, Jack, Adrian, Joe, Richard, John, Ciarán; daughter-in-law Aisling (O’Brien); 24 grandchildren and great-grandchild; brothers; sisters; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; relatives and friends.
