A lecture by historian Dr Bríd McGrath on Kilkenny MPs in 1428 will take place at Rothe House later this month.
Bríd generally works on the early seventeenth century but the story of Kilkenny town’s Members of Parliament in 1428 needs to be told.
The identity of these two Kilkenny men and the reason for their election to the Irish parliament has never been revealed until now.

Their election is put in the context of the state of the Anglo-Norman colony and the power struggles at national and local level, and the history of the medieval Irish parliament.
Dr McGrath is an expert on early-modern Irish parliaments and towns.
The talk by the Kilkenny Archaeological Society will take place at Rothe House on January 22 at 8pm.
Members €8, non-members €10.
