Kilkenny centre-forward, Steffi Fitzgerald has conceded last Saturday's 2-18 to 2-13 defeat of Waterford in the Very Camogie League was a 'relief', as the Kittens secured their first win of the campaign, and in doing so, took a step further away from relegation.
"Finally to get the win in the league is a bit of a relief for the team," Fitzgerald told the Kilkenny People Sport Podcast.
"We had a tough first three matches against Galway, Tipperary and Cork and I suppose we were disappointed not to come away with a win in those three matches so to get a win today is just a relief really.
"The forwards probably haven't scored a lot in the last three matches so the aim today was to get the ball in quick and I think the girls delivered the ball in great really," she added.
"In all three of the league games we've played so far we were disappointed because there was spells of those games where we did perform well. Even against Cork the last day, we had a great first 20 minutes and just the game go after that.
"But look, after every league match you have to take the positives, take the negatives and move forward and look to the next game," she continued.
The Young Irelands club player believes 'workrate' and 'aggression' were key to Tommy Shefflin's team prevailing, elements of their performance they'll be hoping to see again in their final Very Camogie League match of the campaign on Saturday, a game they need at least draw in to maintain their Division 1A status.
"During the week we just focused on being aggressive on the ball and being confident," Fitzgerald commented.
"The girls on that team are deadly and it was just about us going out and showing that confidence and aggression that we know we're capable of doing and that's what we did today, it's why it clicked for us."
"We got the win but there's no point winning today if we're not going to go out and put on a performance against Dublin next week," she concluded.
