Kilkenny Live readers have hit out at the alleged 'shocking' behaviour of a Kilkenny supporter during the county's Leinster Championship meeting with Galway in UPMC Nowlan Park earlier this season with a Galway supporter claiming to have been left with bruises following the altercation. (See Letter Below)
"Utterly idiotic behaviour by this so-called ‘supporter’," one person wrote, while another added, "That's horrendous behaviour."
"A Bully. You were intitled to stay in your seats and fair play to you for doing so," another commenter said.
"Disgraceful carry on proper bully. What a shame she didn’t call a steward or get a photo."
FULL LETTER - I am a Galway hurling fan and, with a family member, watched my team suffer a very heavy defeat last Saturday evening in Nowlan Park at the hands of a much better organised and much sharper Kilkenny team.
We took our seats at 2.20pm in Ardán Breathnach, after a two and a half hour journey. Approximately 15 minutes before the throw-in, a Kilkenny man arrived with his partner and asked us to move. We said no and explained that we had arrived early in order to get good seats on the half-way line.
I indicated a free seat on my left and a free seat directly in front of that, which they chose to take but the gentleman in question appeared to be none too pleased at our refusal to move. As there were only approximately 8,000 supporters at the game, there were still plenty of free seats available in the stand.
When Kilkenny scored their first goal he viciously pounded his right elbow at speed into my side at least six times. I jumped to my feet and shouted at him to stop hitting me but he blatantly denied that he did so. However, I have the bruises to prove him wrong.

He then said aloud to his partner : “They’ll f—in move the next time they’re asked”.
This incredibly selfish and aggressive behaviour both appalled and disgusted me.

This man did not know me but took grave exception to the fact that we didn’t jump to his demands and was obviously determined to make us pay. His apparent sense of entitlement was mind-boggling.
We, in Galway, have always had the height of respect for Kilkenny players, managers and supporters alike. We know that you love your hurling and are staunch supporters of your team who have given many years of wonderful performances.
We also know that Derek Lyng and his players would never condone such moronic and disrespectful behaviour. We are well aware that this dreadful behaviour does not reflect the amicable behaviour of genuine Kilkenny supporters.
You will probably not publish this letter but it has been very therapeutic for me to write it.
I wish Kilkenny the very best of luck in the remainder of the Leinster Championship.
Kind regards,
Bridie Kirby
