Henry Shefflin and the Shamrocks have reportedly been given a welcome boost ahead of Sunday's St Canice's Credit Union SHC Final against O'Loughlin Gaels with Paddy Mullen understood to be available for selection.

Sunday's final is a repeat of the 2023 decider where the city club won the championship with a late wonder score from Kilkenny star Paddy Deegan.

Last week, a first half red card to Mullen meant the 2022 champions played for over half an hour with 14 players in their semi-final win over Dicksboro but Kilkenny Live now understands that the decision has been rescinded following a meeting of the CCC last week.

Referee David Hughes sent off the Shamrocks player for a high challenge on Eoghan Moylan, a call that has divided opinion amongst Kilkenny hurling supporters.

Speaking after the semi-final, Shefflin was strongly of the view the red card decision was incorrect.

"It is what it is and I saw the red card incident as it was right in front of me and Paddy (Mullen) can get himself in trouble, we all know that but he had two big hits before that which were fair and the referee David Hughes called them that way.

"He got the red card incident completely wrong though and it was definitely a free but it was at best a yellow card and that’s my honest opinion on it."

Meanwhile, in other team-news, the Shamrocks will be hoping midfielder Ronan Corcoran will be able to play some part in Sunday's final with the midfielder returning as a sub in the semi-final after time on the sideline with a hand injury.

However, it is not yet clear whether Henry Shefflin will have the services of his nephew Evan with the wing-back taken off due to injury against Dicksboro.
