Author of DJ Carey book grateful of support as ex-Kilkenny hurler begins jail term

Journalist Eimear Ní Bhraonáin has thanked the public for their support following the release of 'The Dodger: DJ Carey and the Great Betrayal' on Friday.

Earlier today (Monday), Carey was jailed for five and a half years for the "reprehensible" defrauding of almost €400,000 from over 20 people while pretending to have cancer.

The Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that the former GAA All-Star defrauded in total €394,127 and $13,000 US dollars from the injured parties over a period between 2014 and 2022. €44,200 has been repaid, leaving €349,927 and $13,000 US dollars outstanding. - READ MORE DETAILS HERE

"Go raibh míle maith agat to everybody who has bought the book over the weekend and given me feedback," the former radio presenter posted to social media.

"This is a news investigation and it is done without the cooperation of DJ Carey. He will not benefit from it financially in any way.

"It is important that a journalist does their job here as rumours were swirling for years," she continued.

"I deeply appreciate your support always. Friends have sent me selfies with the book from all over Ireland. You are a sound bunch," the post concluded.
