The Rower-Inistioge enjoyed an easy passage through to the intermediate hurling league final when they scored a handy win over Emeralds (Urlingford) in Jenkinstown on Sunday.
The winners simply ran through the opposition during the closing half when they out-scored them by 0-10 to 0-2 to line up a meeting with St Patrick’s (Ballyragget).
The Emeralds did well at the start after Alan Guilfoyle nabbed an early goal. Twice they shared parity, and when Brian Campion was put through by Alan Guilfoyle for their second goal in the 12th minute they threatened all sorts of mayhem (2-1 to 0-4).
The Rower simply kept blasting away. Points from Cathal Bolger and Tom Murphy settled them and the scores flowed afterwards. They plundered a goal through Michael Grace in the 18th minute after Joe Lyng did the clearing work to create the opening.
The winners were in front, 1-7 to 2-2. They roared on. By half-time they were 1-11 to 2-3 clear and motoring.
The Emeralds needed a good start to draw the opposition back after the turn. Instead they conceded big time....six points in-a-row to Paul Sheehan, Sean Grace (2), Padraid Tierney, Grace (2) to lose touch completely.
For the record, Emeralds two scores during the closing half wer registered by Derek Lyng (43rd minute) and Pa Doheny (47th minute).
The winners, who have been showing decent form all season, had a bunch of top performers, including Eoin Doyle, who was excellent, Tommy Grace, Sean Lester, Sean Grace, Cathal Bolger, who enjoyed his first outing of the season with the team, and Paul Sheehan, who was a deadly finisher.
The Emeralds now face a difficult few weeks, during which they will be battling to retain their intermediate status.
