Tough challenge brought reward on “great day”

A TOUGH battle, but one that had the right result at the end. All in all, Sunday’s semi-final win over Waterford ticked all the boxes for Kilkenny corner-back Jackie Tyrrell.

“Any day you get into an All-Ireland final is a great day,” smiled the James Stephens man after Kilkenny made it into their sixth senior hurling final in succession.

“I thought we hurled very well - I know Waterford came back at us near the end, but I thought that everyone worked hard throughout the game and played as a unit.”

The game offered just what Tyrrell had expected beforehand - a tough and physical approach from the Deise.

“Waterford have great spirit - they’re full of heart and determination - and bring that physical element to the game as well, but we were well prepared and ready for them.”
