Local TD calls for more primary care services in Co Kilkenny

Carlow/Kilkenny TD, Kathleen Funchion

Sinn Féin TD Kathleen Funchion has called on the Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly to intervene and relieve pressure on local GP and community health services in Kilkenny and Carlow.

The local representative has requested the Minister roll out directly employed GPs and increase primary care staffing in underserved rural and disadvantaged communities. Deputy Funchion also called on the government to back a 'Pharmacy First' minor ailments scheme to relieve pressure on general practice.

The Sinn Fein TD went on on to claim that Minister Donnelly has failed to take 'every action available to him' to reduce waiting times for access to local GP services.

"Health services in Carlow Kilkenny are under pressure and our communities are suffering from a lack of respect for their needs from government," Deputy Funchion commented.

"Budget 2024 was a disaster for the health service. The people of Carlow-Kilkenny deserve better," she added.

"It is time for a government of change that will take the necessary actions," the Sinn-Fein TD concluded.
