Tom Healy (Independent)
Independent General Election candidate for Carlow-Kilkenny Tom Healy has described euthanasia as an election issue after the recent vote in the Dáil to note the ‘Final Report of the Joint Committee on Assisted Dying’.
“Euthanasia – or assisted suicide – may feature under commitments as part of a future programme of Government following the General Election,” he said.
“In all, 38 proposals were made in the final report and while the recent vote is not necessarily an endorsement of all of the recommendations it does indicate that a significant number of sitting TDs are open to some legislative development in this area.
“This issue is going to be an important one for voters in the forthcoming General Election and I, for one, stand firmly opposed to the recommendations of the final report.

“I am calling on all candidates to state their stance on this issue ahead of the election.”
A native of Dublin, Healy is now living in Goresbridge in Kilkenny.
He is an economist and author who formerly served in a number of Government departments.
