Fianna Fáil General Election candidate, John McGuinness believes Túsla needs to be reformed in order to be more ‘respectful’ of women and children who are forced to leave their home during incidents of domestic abuse.

Túsla is the State agency responsible for improving wellbeing and outcomes for children.

Speaking at a hustings event in the River Court Hotel, Mr McGuinness stated there needs to be a ‘cross-political solution’ and suggested the type of courts families attend may need to change.

First elected to the Dáil in 1997, the Fianna Fáil candidate expressed his strong view that Túsla must be ‘reformed’ if such changes are to become reality, adding, the organisation should be ‘answerable’ to the elected members and the public and given guidance as to what is expected of them.

Fellow Kilkenny TD and Green Party Minister, Malcom Noonan also commented on the matter, noting, “Túsla should be accountable to the Oireachtas as it is State funded.”
