Kilkenny will have no Fine Gael TD in the next Dáil following David FitzGerald's elimination on the 13th count shortly before midnight at the Kilkenny Count Centre.
The development marks a miserable weekend for the party in the county as local candidate Michael Doyle was eliminated after the tenth count. The South Kilkenny based candidate finished in ninth position out of twenty candidates with 5,467 votes.
Things later got worse for the party as FitzGerald's General Election bid ended despite the city councillor earning 8,285 votes.
However, the party does hold hope of winning a seat in the constituency with Carlow's Catherine Callaghan performing well with 9,303 votes at present.
