Sinn Fein hold their own in Carlow-Kilkenny General Election

After much speculation that Sinn Féin may lose the seat previously held by newly elected MEP Kathleen Funchion in this year's General Election, those fears were quickly eradicated as it became clear their one seat would be retained with a second a real possibility.

Natasha Newsome Drennan and Áine Gladney Knox were neck and neck heading into the final counts but it wasn’t to be for Gladney Knox as the Kilkenny native sealed the last seat and one of the party’s 38 nationally.

Newsome Drennan was elected alongside Jennifer Murnane O’Connor (Fianna Fáil) after the final count.
