Excitement is building in Freshford in anticipation of the completion of the new playground and amenity area just off the Kilkenny Road within the village.
Local councillor Michael McCarthy says that the local community and Kilkenny County Council have been working closely together for some time to provide this type of amenity within the village and over the last two years things have begun to fall into place.
The project will be a fantastic amenity for the village. It will provide the full gambit of high-end play equipment from an embankment slide, agility trails, a zip-wire. swings, a play tower, and much more.
Seating will also be provided in the green space which will be planted with pollinator friendly trees. The new amenity area will be serviced by a new access road along with an on-site parking area to accommodate 13 cars.
Great credit must go to the local Freshford Playground Committee and Freshford.ie for their tireless efforts over the years also St Lachtain’s GAA Club for their support, in particular, club chairman, Johnny Fitzpatrick.
The project is being grant aided through a combination of different funding streams including Town and Village Renewal Scheme, the Community and Cultural Facilities Capital Scheme,; Kilkenny County Council’s own funds and match funding raised by the local committee.
Cllr McCarthy also praised the efforts of the staff of Kilkenny County Council within the Parks and Community Sections.
CRÉME DE LA CRÉME
“It was hoped the project would be finished and officially opened to the public before the summer,” he said.
“The real crème de la crème of the combined offering will become a reality when the planned adjoining St Lachtain’s GAA walking track is completed.
“ I now look forward to the completion of this fantastic amenity hub, catering for people of all ages, right here in the heart of the village of Freshford.”
