Supt Tony Lonergan, Supt Aidan Brennan and Chief Supt Padraig Dunne with Sgt Ted Hughes
After forty years of dedicated service Sergeant Ted Hughes, who was stationed at Thomastown Garda Station has retired.
The affable gentleman is hugely respected by both his garda colleagues and the wider community and was known for his kind and approachable nature.
Superintendent Anthony Farrell congratulated his colleague on an impressive career and wished him the best in his future.
“Ted had a tremendous ability to connect with people, especially the vulnerable in our community. Because he genuinely cared, he had an ability to listen to people and understand a situation. He really was the epitome of a community policeman putting organisational needs of keeping our communities safe, sometimes above his own.
“His friendship will be sorely missed by us all as a colleague around the Garda Stations in South Kilkenny. On behalf of us all in Thomastown Garda District, I wish Ted well in his retirement and I wish him and Orla many happy healthy years together,” he said.
A special function took place earlier this month at Thomastown Garda Station to mark the event and a retirement party will be held in the Ormonde Hotel next month.
