Cars are speeding onto, and off Thomastown bridge
Speeding traffic on the busy road from one of Kilkenny’s top tourist attractions to the nearby town needs to be addressed, says one local councillor.
Traffic calming is needed on the road from Jerpoint Abbey into Thomastown, Cllr Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere said at the recent meeting of Callan Thomastown municipal district councillors.
“Cars are going very hard” into town and back out again, he said, speeding off the bridge and on the straight stretch of roadway.
There are regulary a lot of pedestrians on the same road, as it leads to the GAA pitch and several local residential estates.
Cllr Cleere appealed for “a little bit of traffic calming from the bridge, all the way to Jerpoint.”
At the municipal district meeting, the local councillor asked Senior Executive Engineer, Declan Murphy, to have a look at the road to determine what could or couldn’t be done.
Cllr Cleere said he had received a lot of representations from local people on the matter and anything that could be done to improve safety would be most welcome.
