The public art which is at the Ossory Bridge on the Ring Road
A €250,000 scheme by Transport Infrastructure Ireland to widen the pedestrian path at the Ossory Bridge on Kilkenny’s Ring Road will commence later this year.
Director of Services at Kilkenny County Council, Tim Butler made a presentation on the proposed scheme to elected representatives at a recent meeting of the Kilkenny City Municipal District.
Mr Butler said told the members that ‘the path gets extremely narrow approaching the bridge’ and that cyclists are asked to dismount.
“It is a very narrow path and it is not really sufficient for two runners or walkers to pass. It has a very narrow width, pinching at 1.2 metres.
“These works will create a three metre path which means that people will not have to dismount their bicycles,” said Mr Butler.
“It is not possible to do the safety measures and keep the public art. We will be in contact with the original designers to see if they can replicate it. The TII will pay for the removal of the piece and Kilkenny County Council will fund the replicated piece” he said.
Works are expected to commence in the third quarter of this year.
