A Kilkenny-based author who found healing through religion has shared her experiences in a recently published book.

Originally from Germany, Carla Eckhorst came to Ireland in 1985 and lives in Kilkenny City.

Carla’s book - The Joy Revolution - How God’s Word Helped to Set me Free falls under the genre of spirituality/Christianity and is available in the Christian bookshop, but also in the Kilkenny Book Centre and Khan's Bookshop and on Amazon.

The author explains how the book is based on her own experiences.

“In 2008 I came across a little church here in Kilkenny, where I was surprised at the lively music during the extensive worship session at the beginning of the evening.

“What touched my heart really powerfully was the combination of harmonies and the lyrics displayed on a big screen at the front. It caused me to dissolve into tears.

“I had certainly no intention of joining any church, I had come to find help for my health challenges, but that initial first taste was all I needed to know I was home.

“On those happy Sunday mornings of singing and dancing and clapping hands, a lot of tears were cried, a lot of emotional healing took place,” she said.

Over the years Carla penned a number of articles and recently decided to publish them as a collection of work.

“It was my son who encouraged me and helped me to publish them as a book, including the article where I tell about a dramatic time in his life. It was he as well, who designed the gorgeous cover. In case you wonder what the tree on the cover is all about, it is a reference to my love for trees and how many of my writings were conceived in nature, close to trees,” she added.
