Kilkenny referees set to strike
Kilkenny referees have withdrawn from this weekend’s club games in support of a colleague who received a threatening letter.
It's understood match officials will be unavailable from today until Tuesday, after they met in Langton's last night to discuss the matter.
A referee received anonymous correspondence from someone after the U17 minor hurling game between Erins Own and Thomastown last Tuesday week.
In the letter, which has been seen by the Kilkenny People, the referee is called a 'solid disgrace' and accused of siding with the home team. There follows a litany of accusations around decisions such as line balls and a penalty, and the referee is told he is 'not welcome in Castlecomer' and 'we know where you live'.
Other clubs have expressed their support for the referees' decision.
The Shamrocks GAA club stands with the referees decision for strike action. No GAA officials should stand for any type of abuse on or off the pitch.
