If you ever been tempted to seek remote work either for an opportunity to reduce the time you spend commuting, to live in a more affordable location or to explore what other careers are out there to match your skills set, then this course may be exactly what you need.
Grow Remote Ireland are the national organisation dedicated to promoting remote work as a viable option for employers and employees. They started their mission to ‘make remote work local’ way back in 2018 and have expanded significantly since then.
The Kilkenny Chapter of Grow Remote was established in 2020 when a small group of local remote workers came together to form the first active community in Kilkenny.
Local Chapter Lead Maria Dollard describes the local chapter as a place where remote workers and remote ‘curious’ meet
once a month for lunch in Billy Byrnes Pub on John St, last Friday of every month.
“We can have a gang of 14 or 4 depending on the time of year and you will always meet a friendly face.” says Maria who is only one of a group who share responsibility for organising and promoting Grow Remote Kilkenny to the wider public.
The Chapter is supported by Grow Remote who encourage the local group to come up with ideas for what we need locally and provides funding to help deliver on local objectives.
“So far we have held monthly lunch meetups, Walking Tours and a trip through Kilkenny on the River Nore with Cliff Reid to celebrate Culture Night. We thought the boat trip was very symbolic of how we aim to encourage people to see the world of work from a new perspective," she added.
This year GR Kilkenny have worked with Grow Remote Ireland to help organise their very popular course called Remote Work Ready, delivered in partnership with Laois Offaly Education and Training Board.
The purpose of the course is to prepare learners to find decent remote work jobs, demystify terms like ‘digital nomads’ or ‘remote first’ and introduce learners to companies like Nearform, Glofox or Zazzle, all of whom are remote employers but names potential employees may not be familiar with.
Chapter Lead Maria is encouraging people to visit the Facebook page Grow Remote Kilkenny Kats and fill out the ‘expression of interest’ form on the link provided.
Further information will be sent as details of dates, times and structure of the course are finalised.
“The course is online but our local chapter will facilitate weekly meet up sessions as part of the course to help people find local support and resources” says Maria. We hope to run the course over four ninety minute sessions in November or January depending on numbers and availability of resources," she added.
