A woman who admitted stealing groceries was sentenced to four months in prison at Kilkenny District Court.
Tracey Carthy of no fixed abode admitted the offence which took place at Aldi, Hebron Road, Kilkenny on March 12, 2022.
The court heard that on the date in question the defendant entered the store and put her shopping into bags and then left without paying for the items. No items were recovered.
The defendant has 33 previous convictions.
Solicitor Chris Hogan said that his client had made full admissions and that the items taken were groceries and added that his client is homeless at the moment.
The defendant is currently serving a sentence.
Judge Geraldine Carthy remarked that she has a responsibility to the people of Kilkenny.
“On March 9 I gave her a suspended sentence and notwithstanding that on March 12 she carried out a similar type offence,” she said.
The judge convicted the defendant and sentenced her to four months to run consecutive to the sentence she is currently serving.
