There was little in Budget 2024 that would have surprised those who attended the Kilkenny Chamber and PwC post Budget lunch held at the Rivercourt Hotel last week.
There was almost 100 people in attendance at the event which featured a detailed analysis by economist Jim Power and PwC Tax Partner Roisin Purcell.
John Hurley, CEO said that Kilkenny Chamber welcomes the increased funding for infrastructure, the €7 billion in funding for the Department of Housing and the €250 million fund for Small Businesses.
He said that the allocation of support for businesses and infrastructure, particularly transport infrastructure, and housing were some of the key topics touched on at the lunch last week.
Kilkenny Chamber and PwC have organised post-budget briefings for the past number of years.
John said that it is beneficial to work alongside PwC with these briefings because they are 'very much in tune with the practical specifics of all of the different measures, how they work currently and how they are likely to change going forward'.
He added that the emphasis on housing issues in the budget was not surprising.
The presentation by Roisin Purcell focused on the finer details of what the key changes in the Budget would mean for families and businesses.
Jim Power then expanded the conversation into the wider macro-economic considerations including global challenges and the uncertainties around current and evolving geo-political situations.
