Kilkenny folk singer to release new single

Folk singer/songwriter Mick Citern Walsh is about to release yet another original work with the announcement of a new single coming our way in November.

Mick has become a well-known name within the realm of the folk scene in Ireland, and his latest creation, the heart-touching Picture The Whistling of the Wind, will - like so much of his songbook - resonate deeply with fans.

Over the years, Walsh has gracefully woven tales of love, loss, and wanderlust into his melodies, carving out a unique niche for himself in the expansive world of folk music. This new track solidifies his reputation as a poignant storyteller, delving deep into the nuanced emotions and reflections that one experiences when immersed in nature’s embrace.

But Picture The Whistling Of The Wind is more than just a song; it is an auditory journey. With each carefully chosen note and the gentle, rustic timbre of his voice, Walsh invites listeners to close their eyes and drift into a world where the wind isn't just a sensation but a symphony, narrating tales of ancient times, love stories long forgotten, and the tender caress of nature on the human soul.

In short, this song is a reminder of the profound connections we share with the world around us, urging us to listen closely, to feel deeply, and to find solace in the simplest of moments.

“The inspiration behind the song came on Duagh Beach, which is out on Inishbofin island. I run around the island whenever I’m out there. However, this one day I was there, and for no real reason, I said I'd just take a walk on this beach instead. And as I did, I took in every bit of nature that I could.

“There was no-one else around, only myself, or so I thought! But then, off in the distance, I spotted an artist painting the scene.

“So, inspired by both that and the magnificent scenery itself, I said I’d try and capture it in a song,” he said.
Mick has become a master of conveying deep emotions through his lyrics, Picture The Whistling Of The Wind also stands out for its particularly captivating tune, with a melody that lingers in the listener's heart, echoing the haunting beauty of a windswept plain or the melancholic hush of a setting sun. Every note seems to carry with it a gust of wind, wrapping the listener in a cloak of memories, dreams, and silent reflections.

In a world overflowing with transient tunes and fleeting sensations, Picture The Whistling Of The Wind offers a sanctuary. It is a song that calls out to the wanderer in all of us, beckoning us to step out, feel the wind on our faces, and lose ourselves in the melodies of nature and the timeless tales it whispers. As the song draws to a close, one can't help but feel a deeper connection with the world, a sense of belonging, and an overwhelming desire to step outside... and simply listen.
Picture The Whistling Of The Wind will be available on all platforms from November 10.
