Increase in number of drug supply seizures in Kilkenny

There has been an increase in the number of detections of drugs that are destined for sale and supply to others in Kilkenny in recent months.

Figures revealed at this month’s meeting of the Joint Policing Committee show that there were 37 detections for sale or supply or drugs under section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act in 2022 and 53 to date this year.

“We take drugs very seriously. It is prevalent in every community in the country,” the meeting was told. In Kilkenny section 15 detections for the sale and supply of drugs are up significantly.

Meanwhile detections for drugs for personal use are down marginally with 144 detections in 2022 compared to 134 to date in 2023.

Cllr Pat Fitzpatrick commended gardaí on the level of detections.
