A Kilkenny man who sustained multiple injuries when he was involved in a motorcycle collision is back in hospital in the Gold Coast in Australia.
Trevor Fennelly from Bennettsbridge moved to Australia eight years ago and had a successful career before he was seriously injured following a collision in Bonogin on the Gold Coast on October 28. The 38-year old who was on his motorcycle when it collided with an oncoming car shattering his knee and elbow and had surgery to insert metal plates in his leg and arm. The Kilkenny native had to be resuscitated on two occasions after he suffered serious internal bleeding and broke several limbs. The brave Kilkenny man also underwent bowel and liver surgery and had 18 blood transfusions. After one month in hospital Trevor went home last week only to be re-admitted after he broke his recently broken arm after a fall at home.
Speaking to local media from the hospital in Australia Trevor said he now intends to be a mentor the the Trauma Survivors Network.
Doctors have told Trevor he will not be able to work or fly for at least six months.
Concerned friends have decided to organise a fundraiser to help Trevor cover his costs as he will not be paid during his sick leave.
"It will be a long time before he is back on his feet and we wanted to do something to help," said Sharon Davis, who organised the go fund me appeal.
"A few of us have decided to set up a go fund me for our Friend Trevor who is living in Australia and has been in a terrible accident. He can't fly home now to be with his family, may not be able for some time. He will be out of work for a long time and we want to raise funds to help him get through these next few months. Any small amount will help.
"Even if we could raise enough to get him a ticket home to Ireland next year when he's cleared to fly again that would be amazing. He's lucky to still be with us and we're lucky to have him. Lets show him some support," she added.
