Cllr Mick McCarthy with An Tánaiste Micheal Martin
North Kilkenny councillor Michael McCarthy has been appointed a Peace Commissioner.
The prestigious appointment continues a proud tradition and impressive longevity with which the McCarthy name is associated with the role. The popular Freshford public representative follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, Jerry McCarthy, who was a Peace Commissioner for many years right up to the time of his death at the age of 105, just two weeks shy of his 106th birthday.
The appointment was made by Minister for Justice Helen McEntee. On a recent visit to Leinster House, Cllr McCarthy was presented with his Certificate by the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin.
