Councillor raises concerns over garda numbers in Kilkenny with Commissioner

Cllr Pat Fitzpatrick raised concerns with the Garda Commissioner, Drew Harris

Concerns over garda resources in Kilkenny were raised by a local county councillor with the Garda Commissioner in recent days.

Cllr Pat Fitzpatrick attended a Joint Policing Committee in Wicklow as the representative of the Association Irish Local Government last Thursday (AILG).

"I took the opportunity to meet directly with Commissioner Harris and seek assurances that  Kilkenny will not see any reduction in garda numbers following on from the fallout of the Dublin disturbances," he said referring to the riots in the capital on November 23.

"We also discussed many other issues such as improving equipment and a commitment that nogarda station in this country would close under his watch.

"I also expressed the support of the AILG for An Garda Síochána and their efforts in policing our country," he added.
