Preparations are under way for the annual ‘Light up the Night’ tractor and truck run, which grew from a group of North Kilkenny natives’ desires to highlight suicide awareness, mental health issues, resources and supports.

Established in 2016, its next event will take place in just two weeks’ time on New Year’s Eve.

The initial aim of ‘Light up the Night’ was to highlight suicide awareness and positive mental health going into the New Year, and over the past number of years, they have done just that with hundreds of highly illuminated flashing beacons from tractors and trucks lighting up various roads throughout North Kilkenny.

Since the run was set up in 2016, it has raised over €60,000, which has been distributed to local mental health and suicide awareness charities.

One of the organisers, Laura Delaney, says that unfortunately, nearly every family in Ireland has been touched by mental health issues, but if Light Up The Night helps just one person to speak out and ask for help ‘that is the best outcome we can ask for’.
