Waste Not Want Not, a climate action community project in partnership between Kilkenny County Council Arts Office and a local charity are showcasing their results this month.

The project aimed to utilise the waste streams of the Vincents charity shop and encouraged the public to reuse and to buy second hand and to explore repurposing and upcycling waste materials with members of the community.

Over six wonderful weeks, participants leashed their inner creative and turning worn-out denim into unique creations such as aprons, bags and cushion covers as well as learning the beautiful art of Sashiko & Boro stitching techniques while having the opportunity to chat about the positive impact individuals can have on the climate crisis and the influence of collective action.

Participants agreed that it is important to remember and recognise the personal power we have as individuals, even by undertaking what could be deemed as small actions.

The beautiful work created can be seen in the window of the new Vincent’s shop, Butts Green, R95 VK7X, until January 14.

The project organisers would like to thank the wonderful artists, Carol Duggan, manager with Vincents, Kilkenny and the participants; Aoibhinn O'Shea, Anne Maher, Margaret McEvoy, Roisin Gribbin, Clodagh Holahan, Zuzana Vankova, Kathleen Phelan, Breda Doyle, Eileen Barwick, Betty Brennan, Rita Costello, Yvonne Craddock, Mary Gaffney, Noreen Hickey, Marie Mullooly, Kate Larkin, Mary Butler, Nicky Read, Andy Ryan, Lisa Kenny.
