Kilkenny youth darts players Leo and Robin Downey were crowned Leinster champions in The Riverside Hotel, Enniscorthy at the weekend, with 14-year-old Robin captaining the team to glory in the under-18 event.
They made it through the qualifying stages where they then overcame Dublin, Meath and Carlow in the final with Robin reaching an 86 average in his last game.
Both boys represent 'Youth Darts School Ireland', a highly successful youth darts club in Laois. The team was Robin Downey (captain), Leo Downey, Stephen Tuohy, Shane Hogan, Eoin Roche, William Colclough and Conor Webster. The managers are Pat Brennan and James Stapleton.
It's the first time for the club to win a Leinster title but have won many other awards to date. Leo competed in Austria and Gibraltar last year representing Ireland and got to play the now famous Luke Littler in a national event held in the INEC, Killarney.
Leo is the current YDS Development Tour Champion while Robin is the current YDS Youth Champion a great achievement for both boys. Robin is hoping to travel to JDC events in Coventry this year to compete with players from all over the world and is hoping to obtain a much sought-after tour card.
