The Marble City is gearing up for this year's offering of the Streets of Kilkenny 5km road race.

A fast 5km race through the medieval city of Kilkenny, the Streets is a two-lap course that is both fast and fun. Part of the Peugeot Road Race series, a strong field is expected to compete for the top prizes.

The sold-out race, which starts at 7.30pm on Holy Thursday, is sure to bring a bumper crowd to the city - there are 1,000 runners expected to participate - so here are some tips to make sure your run goes smoothly.

Number, T-Shirt collection

Numbers can be collected this evening (Wednesday) from 5.30 to 7pm at the Kilkenny City Harriers clubhouse at the Watershed. They can also be collected on the night from 5.30 to 7pm on the Parade down from the start line. Organisers urge anyone living in Kilkenny or nearby to pick up their numbers on Wednesday evening as it will take the pressure off the registration team on Thursday. People who have selected the postage option for their race number, but it has yet to arrive, can head to the registration area before the race where a new number will be allocated.

Please remember to obey An Garda Síochána and marshals at all times. Marshals and the race committee are volunteers who give up their time to ensure the race's success.

The Route

The Streets of Kilkenny is a two-lap course that starts and finishes on the Parade. Runners are asked to follow the guidance of stewards at the start line and assemble in line with their expected finish time.

Parking, street closures

There is some parking available in the County Council office car parking, this car park will close at 10pm. There are also a number of road closures related to the Streets, details of which can be found here.

The prize giving will start at 9pm in the Set in Langtons.
