Traffic problems are continuing to prove challenging on Wolfe Tone Street in Kilkenny City, with the temporary closure of part of the road and restrictions in place due to ongoing works on the Central Access Scheme (CAS).

Construction work is ongoing between the hours of 7am and 10pm. Access is being restricted to local residents on the lower part of Wolfe Tone Street, Michael Street and Green’s Bridge Street until October 24, and no through traffic is being permitted.

The council has said that heavy works are being restricted to 6pm every evening, that only light works continue after this time, and by the end of the closure, disruption will be minimised to the residents.

However, some residents say disruption has been anything but minimal so far. They are deeply unhappy with the way the project is being handled.

They have raised questions over the safety and security of the site, its traffic management, and accessibility for emergency vehicles.
