Speaking to the Kilkenny People regarding the controversial land grab, Deputy John McGuinness said it was his intention to oppose the ridiculous plan to extend the Waterford boundary. “The position of FF in the confidence and supply arrangement with the Government means that the opposition will have an input,” he said.
“The message from Kilkenny is ‘not an inch’ and all of our citizens stand behind this position. I will deliver that message to Dáil Eireann.
“While I appreciate the recent statement from Deputy John Paul Phelan, he must be encouraged to make the Minister see sense. After all, it was Fine Gael who started this madness!
“It is outrageous that at a time when people living in this State are homeless or queuing for services, that are under huge strain, that a Government would spend €87,500 on an issue that is just folly.
“The Waterford extension proposal must be resisted by all right minded people. The integrity and economy of County Kilkenny cannot be undermined by what is a blatant effort to enhance Waterford County at the expense of its neighbouring County,” concluded Deputy John McGuinness.
