Suspect remains in custody at Kilkenny Garda Station

Man in his thirties is being interviewed in relation to the death of Rita Apine

A man in his thirties remains in custody at Kilkenny Garda Station in connection with the death of a young mother in suspicious circumstances.

The suspect can be held until 1.35am tomorrow morning at which point he will either be charged or released.

Legally at midnight the suspect is entitled to apply for an eight-hour rest period and if he does so questioning will resume in the morning. 

A post mortem has been completed at Waterford General Hospital on the deceased. The 29-year-old was found at her home by emergency services yesterday with serious injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later at St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny. 

Tributes are being paid to the deceased who is remembered as a 'lovely, kind and caring woman' who was a 'devoted and adoring' mother.
